Athletics

In conjunction with providing our students with a fine Christian and academic education, we also provide the opportunity for our students to participate in interscholastic sports. Our desire is that students who participate in these athletics will further develop spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, and socially with love for other human beings and a deeper faith in Jesus Christ. Students are encouraged to be the best that they can be to the glory of God with the Athletic Director, coaches, and parents providing positive role models to facilitate each student’s growth and development. Practices and games are usually after school hours so parents are responsible to make arrangements to pick up their students.

Zion athletic programs are Club Teams so we welcome members of Zion Lutheran Church to join our students on our athletic teams.

Volleyball

Each fall the volleyball team is coached by volunteers who teach technique, sportsmanship, and Christ-like attitudes in victory and defeat. Volleyball is open to students in grades 4-8. Practices are held at Zion after school.

Football

In 2010, Zion Lutheran decided to team up with the already established Heartland Lutheran Jr. High Football program. Zion boys in grades 6th - 8th make the brief commute to Grand Island to join other area Lutheran School students on the playing field as Red Hornets.

Basketball

Zion offers both boys and girls basketball teams for students in grades 4th - 8th. It is another way for students to practice what they learn in church and in the classroom in an outside activity. Prayer is held during practice as well as before and after games. We emphasize sportsmanship and having a Christ-like attitude in all situations. Practices are held after school under the supervision of volunteer coaches.

Congratulations to both our boys and girls basketball teams who have had a very successful 2015 basketball season and have both placed in multiple tournaments.

Track & Field

Track and Field skills are developed from an early age at Zion. Each spring area Lutheran Schools are invited to compete bringing Kindergarten - 8th grade students to participate in the annaul Worms Field Day. Age appropriate events, both individual and group, are available for all age groups. The day befind with prayer to set the tone as one of Christian fellowship while engaging in competition.

Adams Central High School also hosts a Track Meet for third through sixth grades. Students have the opportunity to test their skills using high school facilities.

Softball

Girls and boys in grades 4-8 have a great time at the Zion softball tournament held at Harms Park. The next tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2015. We are thankful for the many volunteers helping with coaching, concessions, and other tournament duties.
