Paul Warneke

Church Pastor and Religion Teacher

Pastor Paul Warneke has been pastor at Zion since February of 2010. Prior to his call to Zion, he had been serving as pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Curtis, Nebraska for nearly 14 years. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1996, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia, Seward in 1983.

Born and raised in Torrance, California, Pastor Warneke attended Ascension Lutheran Church and School (where his father, Lloyd, was pastor), and Lutheran High School, Los Angeles. The family moved to Montana his senior year of High School and he graduated from Billings Senior in 1977.

Pastor met his wife, Randi (Hill) in college, and they were married in the summer of 1983 at Tabor Lutheran Church in Chicago. They have five children, Ames (Smallfoot), Joe, Marty, Chris, and Daniel; and two grandchild, Austin and Abel.

Randi works as a Social Worker for the Veteran’s Administration in Grand Island. Her Master’s Degree in Social Work, which she earned at California State University, Long Beach in 1991, helped put Pastor through seminary as she worked various social work jobs around the Fort Wayne area.

Prior to entering seminary, Pastor worked a number of jobs including swimming pool cleaner, radio announcer, school teacher, and five years with Pacific Bell Telephone Company. It’s been said that’s where he first heard “the call.”

Pastor Warneke was recently re-elected Circuit Visitor of the Hastings Circuit, a position he held for many years in the McCook Circuit as well.

In his spare time, Pastor can often be seen golfing, playing softball, coaching baseball, or watching his children playing sports.   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Beth Koepke

Kindergarten & 1st Grade Teacher

Greetings in Christ,

We have seen many changes in the past year but one thing remains the same: our commitment to sharing the love of Christ with our students. Here at Zion we strive to create an environment where our students can grow in God’s love through Bible study, devotions and weekly Chapels services, along with their core curriculum. We use ‘teachable moments’ as opportunities to model God’s love and forgiveness in our classroom.

Here at Zion we are not just a school; we are a family! We are dedicated not only to teaching your children, but also to helping them grow in the love of Christ and to sharing that love with others.  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Jena Mackay

Fourth & Fifth Grade Teacher

I am Jena Mackay. I received my teaching certificate from the University of Missouri in St. Louis in May 1999. Since then, I have only taught in the Lutheran Schools. I have taught just about every grade at some point, but have been teaching preschool the longest (almost 4 years). Currently, I am taking classes to get my Master's Degree from UNK and hope to be done in th summer of 2014.

My interests include working out (specifically running, swimming and lifting weights). sports, reading, watching TV and watching my kids in their various activities. My favorite foods are definitely chocolate and ice cream.

I love working in the Lutheran Schools because I am free to tell all of the students about the grace we receive through Jesus Christ dying on the cross and raising from the dead. We can be assured that when we die here on earth, that we will have a new life in heaven with Christ.   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Danielle Ellis

Kitchen Manager

Hi! My name is Danielle Ellis. I have two beautiful daughters that attend school here at Zion Lutheran. I enjoy many things in life with my family like camping, biking, and swimming. I am in the perfect job because the thing I enjoy most in life is COOKING! I love learning new recipes and having the children try something new. It’s an absolute joy to teach the children that a lot of foods just have fancy names but are just familiar ingredients combined in different ways. I believe that lunch is an important part of the school day that helps students perform better in the classroom. I am committed to educating myself through college courses and educational seminars. I have received a Serv Safe certification and attend at least one educational lecture a year. I look forward to serving the children homemade healthy meals for years to come!
