Who We Are
We are a Lutheran congregation and a member of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
Worship is held here every Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. and every Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. The Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion) is served the first, third, and fifth weekends of every month. Our Sunday morning service is broadcast live on KHAS radio, 1230 on your AM radio dial. Sunday school and Adult Bible class are held every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.
In the Old Testament, Zion was another name for the mountain on which the Temple stood, and became synonymous with Jerusalem itself. Thus, Zion is a word used to describe the place where God meets His people.
The same can be said then of our Zion here in Hastings. God comes to meet us here as we gather together around His Word and His means of grace. Through Word and Sacrament, the risen and ascended Jesus Christ is truly present, bringing to us the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation, which He won for us in His suffering and death on the cross.
Here at Zion we are committed to preaching and teaching the life-giving and life-changing Gospel of Jesus in its truth and purity. That is the heart and core of all our activities here at Zion.
As a Lutheran congregation, and as a member of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, we accept, confess, and teach all the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible as the verbally inspired Word of God and the only rule and norm of faith and practice. We furthermore accept all the Official Confessions of the Lutheran Church as contained in the Book of Concord of 1580 as the true and correct exposition of the Doctrines of the Lutheran Church as drawn from the Bible.
Our worship is “cutting edge” as we incorporate such modern techniques as projectors and screens. At the same time our worship is traditional and liturgical, using our hymnal Lutheran Service Book as the basis for our orders of worship and our hymnody.
